Differences between Centrifugal Pump and Shear Pump in Drilling

Sep 03, 2013

Centrifugal Pump

Centrifugal pump is a sub-class of dynamic axisymmetric work-absorbing turbomachinery. Centrifugal pump is used to transport fluids by conversion of rotational kinetic energy to the hydrodynamic energy of the fluid flow. The rotational energy typically comes from an engine or electric motor. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or near the rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller, flowing radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber ( casing ), from where it exits.

Its common applications include water, sewage, petroleum and petrochemical pumping. The reverse function of the centrifugal pump is a water turbine converting potential energy of water pressure into mechanical rotational energy.

KOSUN Centrifugal Pump is used for transferring drilling mud. It can be used as feeding pump for desander, desilter or used as mixing pump for jet mud mixer. Also it can be used as trip pump, and supercharging pump for rig mud pump.

Shear Pump

Shear pump is used to effectively mix and hydrate materials added into drilling fluids. With large capacity, high lift, and long service life, the shear pump can speed up dilution and hydration of polymers to have better mud property.

Shear pump is based on the existing centrifugal pump theory. Via improvement, it has been developed to be a new, efficient centrifugal pump and is designed for quick preparation and disposal of drilling fluids in the solids control system. It is mainly used to shear polymer clay. It can mix materials effectively, fully hydrate materials, save materials, shorten drilling fluids preparation time, make drilling fluids perform well in drilling operations.

Features and Benefits of KOSUN Shear Pump

Shear Pump

1. Improves the hydration extent of particles

2. Saves betonies above 30%

3. Dilutes, shears and hydrates the polymer

4. The shearing pump has a large flow rate and lifts. It can meet the requirement for making up and disposing mud.

KOSUN is capable of providing customers with such three series as oil & gas drilling solids control equipment, centrifuges and drilling waste management equipment, including 25 categories of products, which are extensively used in oil & gas drilling and workover, coalbed methane drilling, shale gas drilling, water well, geothermal well drilling, trenchless horizontal directional crossing projects, mine gravel staged treatment, tailings treatment, rive dredging works, industrial wastewater treatment, environment-friendly sewage treatment, waste oil recovery, purification treatment, etc.
