There are several types of shale shakers and screens available in the solids control equipment market today, and their utility depends on the nature of the drilling operation. The specific shale shaker dealt with in this work is the ES Series Shale Shaker manufactured by KOSUN, the most advanced drilling fluids solids control equipment supplier in China. The basic function of the KOSUN Oilfield Drilling Shale Shaker is to provide primary solids removal from both oil-based drilling mud and water-based drilling mud operations. The shale shaker considered in this work has a balanced elliptical motion which conveys solids faster and gives higher capacity. Unbalanced motion gives longer screen residence time and hence drier solids off the discharged end of the shale shaker.

KOSUN-patented AWD Angle Adjustment System can raise or lower the end of screen basket while the drilling shale shaker is working. This part includes two vertical column assemblies that are connected on the upper beam assembly and are attached to the drilling mud shaker base. The mobile part of AWD consists of the lower beam, limiting device that controls vertical movement and screw rod that drives the upward and downward movement of the screen basket. Both ends of screw rod are hinged with the upper and lower beam assemblies respectively. Positive and negative rotating handles can make the screen basket move upward and downward respectively. The screen basket angle's can be arbitrarily adjusted within -1°~5° at an increment of 0.5°as required.
