Deep drilling or supper deep drilling is a complicated projects and system engineering. No matter in economy and technique perspectives, high risk is always the most dangerous factor always be considered in drilling. Combined with drilling mud functions and characteristics in
solids control system, high request would be raised in deep drilling.
Deep drilling characteristics：
1. High formation pressure is the most obvious characteristic in deep drilling, so when making up drilling mud, high density of drilling mud is required. If the solids phase within drilling fluids is very high, complicated situation such as well kick and leakage will greatly add. Good performance of flowing and filtering will be quiet difficult to maintain.
2. High temperature in drilling. Components in drilling mud may happen degradation, fermentation, thickening and even losing efficiency, which would easily lead to difficult control and maintenance of drilling mud, and
solids control processing may finally stop in worst situation.
Requirement of drilling mud in deep drilling：
1. Ability to anti high temperature. Specialized components would be added in the mixing and making up of drilling mud.
2. Ability to resist clay hydration in high temperature.
3. Favorable lubricity of drilling mud.
4. Rheological property in high temperature.
Requirement of drilling mud conditioner in deep drilling：
1. Good stability in high temperature and degradation resistant in high temperature.
2. Strong adsorption capacity to clay and is of little impact by the change of temperature.
4. Ability to resist distribution of clay in high temperature.
5. Within proper amount incretion extent, anti-high temperature is not allowed to make mud thicken.
6. When PH value is between 7 and 10, good performance is still maintained, and gelatinization and solidification phenomenon will be effectively prevented.
