Vacuum degasser is the solids control equipment used to remove harmful gas. Gases are entrained in drilling fluids from the wellbore during normal drilling operation as well as during “kick” or well control situations, these gases may bring safety hazards and create operational problems, in case of the presence of hazardous gases, it is desirable to localize the point where gas is released from the mud by installing a vacuum degasser.

The vacuum degasser is placed after the shale shaker, the drilling mud after treatment from shale shaker will underflow into the shaker tank waiting for the further treatment by hydrocyclone. Here, we need centrifugal pump to feed the drilling mud to the cyclone. Besides, the functions mentioned above, the vacuum degasser could help the centrifugal pump performance well, for the pump suck the drilling mud by producing a vacuum inner it, if the gas in the drilling mud was not removed, the efficience of the centrifugal pump would reduce more and the impeller would be damaged.
 

When the vacuum degasser is working, the vacuum pump produce a negative pressure in the tank, under the effect of pressure, the drilling mud was sucked into the hollow shaft through the inlet pipe, then spraied out from the tiny window towards the inner tank wall. The bubble is broken at the power of collision so the gas escapes through the outlet to safety area. And the mud is discharged out through the rotor. In addition, the vacuum pump starts simultaneously with the main motor, therefore, the mud will not be sucked from the discharge pipe.
