Vacuum degasser is also called Mud/gas separator. Mud/gas separator ( degasser ) is the first unit of solids control equipment arranged to treat drilling mud. As such, they process all the drilling mud from the flow line before the mud reaches the primary shale shaker. The unit have no moving parts and relies on the density difference between the gas and the mud for removal. The process is simple, but very effective for well drilling fluids processing system.

A degasser is a device used in drilling to remove gasses from drilling fluids which could otherwise form bubbles. For small amount of entrained gas in a drilling fluids, the degasser can play a major role in removing small bubbles that a liquid film has enveloped and entrapped. In order for it to be released and break out the air and gas such as methane, H2S and CO2 from the mud to the surface, the drilling fluid must go through the degassing machine and it can be accomplished by the equipment called degasser which is also a major part of mud circulation system.

KOSUN VD Series Vacuum Degasser is vacuum type. It applies the vacuum pump suction to form a negative pressure region in vacuum cylinder. The drilling fluids is forced to flow into the hollow shaft of the rotator through suction pipe under the atmosphere pressure. After that, the fluids sprays to cylinder walls out of hollow shaft windows. At this time, the drilling fluids is separated to a thin layer under the collapse together with separating impeller and gas bubbles in the mud may break and are displaced to a safe place under the vacuum pump with liquid/gas separator through air displacement pipelines of the separator while the mud is drained out by impeller. In addition, drilling mud enters the pump cylinder only through suction pipe and can’ t be sucked in through discharge pipe because the main motor is started at the first place and the impeller connected to the motor will revolve at a high speed.
